SiO2 Materials Science Named Fast Company’s #1 Most Innovative Manufacturing Company 2021

SiO2 Materials Science ranked #1 in the manufacturing category

Auburn, Alabama (March 9, 2021) — SiO2 Materials Science has been named to Fast Company’s prestigious annual list of the World’s Most Innovative Companies of 2021.

SiO2 landed the elite ranking of #1 most innovative manufacturing company in the world because of their plasma technology that creates a microscopic layer of medical-grade glass inside of plastic vials.

The list honors the businesses that have not only found a way to be resilient in the past year, but also turned those challenges into impact-making processes. These companies did more than survive, they thrived—making an impact on their industries and culture as a whole. This year’s MIC list features 463 businesses from 29 countries.

“In June our business changed overnight when the US government awarded us $143 million to increase the capacity of our vaccine vial manufacturing as part of Operation Warp Speed,” said Lawrence Ganti, President and Chief Business Officer at SiO2 Materials Science.

“Our team of 500 workers in Alabama rose to the challenge and delivered vials for over 100 million doses of vaccine to date. I am incredibly proud of all their hard work and effort in a time when our country really needed us. We are beyond honored to be recognized among such a highly distinguished set of trailblazers,” said Ganti.

Chris Weikart, Chief Scientist at SiO2 Materials Science commented: “We spent ten years in research and development to develop an innovative hybrid material that gives drug makers an alternative to traditional glass packaging which has seen modest innovation since it’s invention in 1890. Our material is designed to support the next generation of drugs and we look forward to leading the pharma packaging industry into the future”.

The World’s Most Innovative Companies is Fast Company’s signature franchise and one of its most highly anticipated editorial efforts of the year. It provides both a snapshot and a road map for the future of innovation across the most dynamic sectors of the economy.

“In a year of unprecedented challenges, the companies on this list exhibit fearlessness, ingenuity, and creativity in the face of crisis,” said Fast Company Deputy Editor David Lidsky, who oversaw the issue with Senior Editor Amy Farley.

To coincide with the issue launch, Fast Company will host its first-ever Most Innovative Companies Summit on March 9 and 10. This virtual, multi-day summit will celebrate the Most Innovative Companies in business, provide an early look at major business trends, and offer the inspiration and practical insights on what it takes to innovate in 2021.

Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies issue (March/April 2021) is now available online here, as well as in app form via iTunes and on newsstands beginning March 16, 2021. The hashtag is #FCMostInnovative.
