Job Summary

Operations Manager oversees the overall manufacturing process to optimize production; supervises the maintenance, facility, supply chain, and production personnel; oversees planning/organization of production process; ensures availability of necessary resources (material, equipment, and labor); prepares cost estimates and budgets for manufacturing; ensures (or implements action plans to ensure) the manufacture of high quality and cost-effective products; oversees that production and staff comply with established quality control specifications; and ensures operations personnel comply with current health, safety, and environmental policies.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise the operations of manufacturing personnel to ensure process is within budget and time deadlines
  • Design and implement plans for effective use of materials and labor to achieve manufacturing target
  • Assist leadership team with the execution and understanding of the company’s workforce strategy (recruiting, retention, and succession planning)
  • Analyze and provide solutions to manufacturing challenges
  • Collaborate with QA department to ensure product quality and specifications are consistent
  • Oversee the procurement of raw materials and equipment required for manufacturing
  • Conduct studies/research to discover a more effective approach to production
  • Conduct assessments to identify mechanical and procedural limitations that minimize work efficiency
  • Review personnel performance to determine suitable promotions
  • Perform regular inspections of production machinery to ensure operational efficiency
  • Perform regular inspections of facility to ensure plant efficiency
  • Facilitate maintenance, repair, or replacement of damaged equipment
  • Ensure production complies with established quality control specifications/standards
  • Collaborate with department managers to ensure effective performance and compliance of health, safety, and environmental regulations by all staff
  • Delegate and assign work schedules
  • Implement action plans to ensure cost-efficiency along with high quality production
  • Motivate the plant team to achieve set objectives
  • Ability to produce and present manufacturing operations reports
  • Ability to prepare manufacturing cost estimates and budgets
  • Foster a continuous improvement culture
  • Through knowledge of LEAN manufacturing (specifically for measurement and monitoring of key performance indicators and 5S)
  • Ability to lead improvement activities such as Kaizen events and Six Sigma projects
  • Ability to cultivate a “quality-first” workforce culture
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or Operations Management; MBA preferred
  • Previous medical device/pharmaceutical manufacturing experience; ten (10) years preferred
  • Proficient use in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Previous managerial experience
  • Previous project management experience
  • Lean Six Sigma experience; black belt preferred
  • Previous supply chain experience
  • Proficient us in SAP (Systems, Applications, & Products) software
